We wanted one bit that answered the comfort critics without going dead in the hand. This is it: the domed Turtle Top link that lies flat and clears the palate, a double joint that wraps the mouth, and a warm, gold-toned alloy so the horse softens. It earned its place in the house on the horses that hated everything else — but still had to be ridden.

Rinse and dry after each ride; an occasional polish keeps it bright. The mouthpiece alloy is built to resist corrosion and stay kind in the mouth, and the stainless rings are maintenance-free. Stored well, it outlasts years of riding.
